Standards

General

  • All new cataloguing records (both outsourced and original) will follow RDA standards.
  • Old records will remain with AACR2 standards.
  • Sears List of Subject Headings will be the primary source for subject headings 
    • refer to Subject Headings policy
  • Follett's Destiny ILS is where all cataloguing will be completed.

Pre-Processed

  • Whenever possible, use the MARC records provided by our two main vendors: Follett and OverDrive
  • Ensure that the following fields are correct
    • Contents - 505 (for nonfiction resources)
    • Summary - 520
    • Target Audience - 521
    • Awards - 586
    • Subject Headings - 650

Copy Cataloguing

  • The following are appropriate resources for copy-cataloguing
    • Library of Congress 
      • Search for a resource --> choose "Save Record" --> import into Destiny
    • Alliance Plus (via Destiny)
    • Z Sources (via Destiny)

Original Cataloguing

On occasion, original cataloguing will need to be done with foreign-language resources (eg. Korean books), and even possibly English resources not found in the LC or Follett. In this case, Level 2 cataloguing (Core-level cataloguing) will be completed.
